whoops

pretty cool

Hey, guys.  Guys.  Hey. Guess what I got a kewl new cintiq and a kewl new Manga Studio 5 and I started screwing around with it and I drew a thing or two and so here's a thing or two I drew.

I struggled with it at first, but after I got the hang of it, it's great fun.  Nothing beats the feeling of putting real ink on real paper, though.  I am looking forward to learning some more stuff so that I can draw comic with the thing and see how that works out for me.

PEACE I'M OUT

Whoa guys hey what's up?  I finished up all the bonus sketches that I'm throwing in with the embarrassingly late LOOKITs.  Gonna have the last of these bad boys out in no time and I'll let you know when they've left the building.

This is blog post number 700 pretty cool right I feel like we need a birthday cake to celebrate

surprising no one...

gewn'd

Didn't QUITE make it, you guys, BUT, I've got a fat stack to send out on Monday so that's pretty cool.  Even cooler, though, is the fact that the number of remaining orders to be filled can be counted on my fingers.  That would be even better news if I didn't have all of my fingers, but sadly, I do.  Sorry.

The above sketch is a one of the bonuses that I've been throwing in with the outstanding orders in an attempt to ease the blow a bit.  Since I won't be printing those things I figured it wouldn't hurt to share one here on the ol' scatchblag.  It's Goon from the comic The Goon in which he is the main character.  Is that the sun, the moon, or maybe just a ball gonna bop 'im on the bonce? Choose your own adventure.  See you later.

LOOKIT (sigh)

brrrrrappppp

Well, it's taken long enough, but we're nearly at the finish line, can see the light at the end of the tunnel, etc.  I've got a cover to do while I'm finishing up, but I am determined to have this badness behind me and have the last handful of LOOKITs sent out by next Friday, the 16th of Nov.

I'mma keep you sweethearts posted over these next 10 days as best I can, starting with these poopoo caca sketchie-babies here which were thumbnail whatevers for a few LOOKIT sketches I finished recently.  Dunno how many of these things I'll post because I want the collected sketchbook of these things to be as fresh as possible to you guys, but I'll have SOMETHING to offer with each update, so there's that.

You guys are cool.  Thanks for looking.

good news/bad news

The good news is that Invincible #95 will be out soon, either this Wednesday or next.  The bad news is that most Invincible fans should just start looking forward to Invincible #96 now, because this issue is 80% Cory Walker and only 20% Ryan Ottley.  Sorry to bum you out like that.  Here's a preview.

colors by John Rauch

Issue 96 will feature a reversal of that percentage, subjecting you to only 4 pages of Cory Walker sad times.  Something to look forward to.

*kisses*

So, did you guys get Invincible #94?  If you haven't gotten around to it yet, or whatever your problem is, you can look at a preview here.  So, have that.  Enjoy it.

SDCBC '12 was a thing that happened

Sup.  Tell your sister I say "hi."  Then show her these sketches I did last week at the Sunny San Diego Comic Book convention.

Had a great time seeing "fans" and "friends."  Super sad that I didn't get to see some guys that I really wanted to, but I was basically chained to my table for the entire show with the exception of the 20 minutes I was able to get away to hit the ol' Stuart Ng booth.

Sorry if you don't like me.  I'm not very good at it.

PEACE!!

SDCBC

THAT'S RIGHT, YOU GUYS! It's time for the San Diego Comic Book Con, and I will be there, sharing a table with my better half, the ever-lovin' Nate-Beellyguarge thing. You will be able to find us in the cool spot at the Image Comics booth where we will bolth be doing sketches for pay as well as selling original art and books-style collections of our comics work.

AND THIS YEAR I WILL HAVE THIS PRINT FOR SALE FOR YOU TO BUY

Limited to 300, as if I could ever sell that many, the InvinciGIRL and Young Lady Omni-Man print is sure to add class to any stack of paper or trash bin in which you may place it.  Weighing in at 5.5 x 8.5 inches, this print will be $10 American or free with any purchase of original art.

It's got Ostrichard, you guys.  And bless your sweet little hearts, the emphasis is on the Richard bit, not the Ostrich.  Get with the program, my angels.

Lastly, I will not be able to send out the last of the Lookit books before the convention.  I know, BIG surprise.  Work being what it is, I was unable to make the time, but on the bright side, everyone whose Lookit hasn't left the nest just yet will also get a copy of this handsome print in addition to the bonus bits I am already including with the late, late orders.  Papa loves you.  (I'm papa)

(seriously, though, click that link for Nate up there and check out his SDCBC-related posts.  he's so special.  love him.)

See you in San Diego!

Monday, July 02, 2012

Oh, yeah. I have a blog.

What's up, you guys?  I forgot to make any posts when Invincible #92 was coming out because I am not a smart person, but hey, Invincible #93 comes out this week, so I have a chance to redeem myself! CBR has a preview here which is made up of the entirety of my contribution to the issue, but you should still buy it the book, because Ryan's pages are where the the magic happens.

Next issue, I've got 8 pages!  See you then. Love you! Miss you!

whatnot

Hey, gang. Those of you who are familiar with it may have noticed that I've joined the AMAZING group of artists at the WhatNot blog. I know I said I'd never join an online artist collective or whatever, because I wouldn't want to be the weakest link in the group, and also wouldn't want to be in a group with people even shittier than I am, but there's a good reason for joining the WhatNot gang. Being the weakest link is an important job. It's a necessary role to draw focus to how super-fantastic those folks are by providing mediocre artwork to contrast the brilliant efforts put forth by the other new and existing members. If all they had was top-notch talent, you wouldn't appreciate the work being displayed. This way, though, you get a firm reminder that not all "art" is amazing, and you'll appreciate the work they do that much more. Totally makes sense.

I finally serve a purpose in this crazy world. Feels good, man.

Anyway, my first submission for last week's theme of "favorite comic book artist" can be seen here. It's okay, I guess, even if it's not a very good likeness. I kinda prefer my original, unreferenced sketch, though it was done before I had that idea for the hat. Whatever. Check it out.

Here's a bonus sketch of one of my other favorite comic artists, Newt Beauregard.

Lastly, I am still chipping away at LOOKIT orders. I sent a few off yesterday, and hope to have this whole ordeal wrapped up in the next few weeks. I am truly sorry for the wait you all have had to endure. I love you.

Thanks for looking.

twenny twelf

Hey, folks. Happy New Yeared.

I had a swell time this past weekend at the Amazing Arizona Con in scenic Mesa, AZ. I even did some sketches. Here's one:

Also, I have some stuff to send out to you incredibly patient people, I just need to get my stupid ass to the post office. I love and appreciate you all.

I HOPE NOBODY'S WATCHING THIS

Hey, guys! Just wanted to thank everyone for picking up Invincible #85 and saying nice things about it or whatever. You're all the coolest.

Also, I wanted to let you guys know that now that I'm finished with Invincible, all I have to work on is LOOKIT sketches and other commissions that I owe people, so that stuff if going to start getting out more regularly and everyone that I owe something to should have that thing in their hands by the end of the year. I'm sorry it's taken this long, but I'm doing my best to make it worth it and I'm including a bonus little thing for everyone that's still waiting on a copy of LOOKIT with a sketch, so hopefully that thing will ease the sting of a year-long wait. So, yeah. There's that.

Will probably update the blog more now, too. Watch this space, I guess.

DOGS BE GETTIN' SICK Y'ALL

Hey, errebody! Man, let me tell you what, my dog got a little sick, and I took her to the vet, as you do and it cost a MILLION DOLLARS because she had a little bit of everything wrong with her. She's taking her(expensive) meds and feeling better each day, but my wallet isn't healing any after the hit it took, SO, I am selling a few pages on ebay so that I don't lose the farm.

Click these links:

INVINCIBLE #67 PAGE 2

DESTROYER #1 PAGE 4

Thanks for looking, everyone. And thanks in advance to the lucky guy or gal that gives me their money for this stuff.

And if anyone just wants to BUY a page, shoot me an email. Cory at funkotron dot com. I dunno.

Also: I've been incredibly busy with Invincible and going to Detroit this past weekend, so if you sent me an e-mail, fear not, I will get back to you soon. Sorry.

HEY, YOU GUYS

I dunno.

I'm just trying to solve the shorts problem, not reinvent the wheel. I'm still not sure whether it looks better to keep that other section of yellow going around the back of the waist, but I decided to keep it for now.

A few extraneous lines on the boots aren't hurting anything. Shut up.

EDITED TO ADD:

One thing I feel like I may toy with is bringing the upper red bits closer to the center and maybe even converging at a point above the "buckle" on the belt.

I say "i dunno" a lot.

Thanks again for looking/commenting, you guys.

BARF

So, I had another stupid idea for a Superman with no shorts. I can't say for sure, but I'm thinking that it looks pretty dumb. Oh, well.

Back to the old thinking board.

So, LOOKIT...

You guys, it's more than a little embarassing to have outstanding orders for copies of LOOKIT w/sketches from a year ago, but it is a sad, shameful fact of my life. I have, however, just sent out a stack of them that I was sitting on a little longer than I should have, and have done a few more this week that will be going out soon. I'm nearing the end, here, and I see the light at the end of the tunnel, I just ask that you bear with me a little longer while I wrap this up. You guys have no idea how much I love you for being SO incredibly patient with me.

(above is an old spider-man I did in a copy of LOOKIT for a guy that has been posted elsewhere online, so I'm posting it here as well, so that this post isn't without a picture for you dudes to look at)

If any of you want to double-check with me that yours just hasn't been done yet as opposed to being lost in the mail, just leave me a comment here, and I'll verify.

Thanks again, everyone.

SHADOWPACT'D COLON

Here's another one from 2006 that has not seen the light of day, UNTIL NOW.

I did this cover for Shadowpact before the series was cancelled before it's time sad trombone. I liked that book, and Joey Cavalieri was a swell editor to work for.

Anyway, below you'll see a silly little color mockup that I did because I am cool.

ADDED BONUS I AM SELLING SOLD THIS THING ON EBAY CHECK THAT OUT:

Thanks for looking you guys. I'm pretty fond of you all.

Going Commando

So, it's not like I think these are good or anything, BUT I think that if you're going to remove the hot pants from a Superman or a Batman, they need to have "pants" that are a different color than the upper body of their costume. A one-color bodysuit with a belt is a look that may work for Donna Troy, but it's not quite doing it for me on a Superman or a Batman. It's not a masculine look.

Anyway, this is the garbage I came up with. And don't get me wrong, I don't think I'm any better at this shit than the next guy. A quick look at my blog will show you just how limited my design vocabulary really is. Y'know, just so you don't get the wrong idea about my attitude in posting this stuff.

BUT, just because I can't come up with anything good doesn't mean my opinion on the matter is any less right. I'm totally right, you guys.

INVINCIBLE

Just scratching an itch.

Sunday, May 22, 2011

LOOKIT. FOR SALE. FOR REAL. AGAIN.

So, bros. I'm currently working on the last batch of sketches in the backs of copies of LOOKIT and I realize that I will have SEVENTEEN copies of LOOKIT left over after previous orders have been filled. SO, here's what's going to happen: I'm gonna sell these bad boys. BUT, since these are my last copies, for the rest of forever, they're going to be $50 shipped, and all come with sketches. The Terry McGinnis sketch a few posts down the page is a pretty good indication of the quality of sketch you're getting, so don't think it's just gonna be some quickie pencil sketch or anything. Just sayin'. I'll do my best to give you guys the highest possible quality of sketch.

AND, just so you know all the original sketches I do in the back of LOOKIT will make up my all-new sketchbook later this year, so if you want to own a piece of history, this is your last chance.

Anyway, if you're into it, shoot me an e-mail. Cory at funkotron dot com and we'll work out the deets. That's how cool people say "details." Now you're in the club. You're welcome.

And, lastly, just so you know what you're getting, it's not the biggest book in the world. LOOKIT measures 5.5in x 5.5in and is 28 pages. It largely features sketches from this very blog, but also has a few unpublished pieces. I imagine most people will be buying for the original sketch, though. Right?

UPDATE: ONLY A FEW LEFT, GUYS, GET WHILE THE GETTIN'S GOOD

LOOKITs

This here is a LOOKIT sketch of Terry McGinnis Batman I did for someone a while back.

The reason I haven't posted any of these LOOKIT sketches on the blog before is because I wanted to collect them all in a sketchbook and I liked the idea of it being all new material after the last sketchbook basically being a collection of sketches you could see for free on this blog.

You guys like the sound of that?

FUCK IT

Just a doodle that I liked.

SORRY JEEZ

LOOKIT bros: I just moved back across the country, and it's serious business time for wrapping up the LOOKIT books w/sketches that I owe to you extremely patient ladies and gentlemen. I'm going to try to do a few every morning before comics, so we should all be happy soon.

I promise I'll try to make the sketches worth it, you guys.
