i didn't notice at first. i dont mind really, i know a LOT of superman fans that would be so angry if the shorts weren't there lol. but i think doesn't look dumb at all, good stuff
chris- "IF" the shorts weren't there? Have you seen Superman lately? They're not there. Not in the comics, and not in the new movie.
Matt- I feel like people that share that opinion need to stop thinking of them as little shorts and see them as the much-needed design element that they are. He looks awful without that bit of red to break up the costume.
Red band/belt is cool, the yellow part isn't needed though. I'd also ditch the red bands on the wrists or make them thinner, like red piping at the end of the sleeve.
On a serious note, what about sandwiching a thinner line of yellow in the red band rather than have the yellow band just on top of the red? It would visually mimic the yellow belt without actually invoking the idea of shorts that have belt loops.
I do support keeping the low neck like, Superman with a high collar just looks like a dick.
Sorry, Avi. I came across like a total dick. Didn't even occur to me until the second after submitted that reply that you may have been being a wiseacre. Sorry.
Anyway, yeah, I have kinda come up with something sorta like what you're saying in the midsection, but it's a little more ornate and belt-y than that, while still remaining clean and simple enough, I think, to fit in with the rest of the classic costume. I'm trying to come up with something as simple as possible to replace the shorts, but still fill that gap left in their absence. I dunno.
OH, and as far as the movie costume, I dunno. I like it enough. Wish they had kept the shorts or some reasonable facsimile. I could do without all that crazy texture, too. It's fine on the body of the suit, but putting it EVERYWHERE, especially on the "S" is overkill. Can't REALLY judge it until I see it how it's meant to be seen, all properly lit and in motion and all, I suppose.

I'm all for the loss of the red undies... and maybe the loss of a super power or two.
kris- Hahah. Yeah, there's that.
j_ay- I don't even

Thanks for looking, guys.
yea seen one image from the movie, had no idea they were taken out of the comics, makes sense. I'm pretty behind the times in my comics knowledge
Nothing says "I don't care about being cool" like red overpants, and not caring is the coolest.

So, basically, Avi, you're saying is that I should just draw Jim Lee's Superman costume? That's hardly in the spirit of what I'm trying to do.
...or were you joking?
Totally joking. I should have said "add some extraneous lines and a high v neck collar and it's gold!" to sell the joke.
What are your thoughts on the movie costume?
